Dental Bone Graft
When a patient experiences bone loss in an area, we need to build up bone to make enough width and height to place an implant. To do so, we take a piece of bone from a donor and graft it for the patient. Allograft or xenograft materials (synthetic materials) may be used for this procedure. Once the bone graft is complete, we can insert an implant. The operation for creating a bone graft and inserting the implant may be completed at the same time, based on the specific circumstances of the patient.
Bone graft is usually performed to repair implant sites with inadequate bone structure. This could be due to previous dental work, or possible gum disease. The bone can be collected from your own bone from areas such as the jaw or hip.
In serious cases larger bone grafts are used to repair imperfections of the jaws. These imperfections; such as traumatic injuries, tumor surgery, or congenital defects. If you are suffering from bone loss or pain in areas after surgery or injury make an appointment with our professional team to be checked out.
