Dental Crowns & Bridges
Crowns
The crown (also called caps) of a natural tooth is the portion that shows above the gum line. Our dentists may recommend a crown restoration when you have a tooth that is broken or has a large area of decay. This is a cap made of a strong material, precisely fabricated in the exact shape of the tooth. It covers the entire visible part of the tooth, providing strength for chewing and protection against further damage. Crowns are also used to improve the appearance of misshapen or badly discoloured teeth, and to fortify teeth that have had root canal therapy.
During your appointment, we will prepare your tooth structure and then take an impression of the prepared tooth, make a temporary crown to place on the tooth, and send the impression to a dental laboratory for fabrication. At your next visit, we will try-in the crown to ensure a good fit and then cement the crown in place.
When you have a tooth that is completely missing, it can do more than just impair your smile, it can lead to trouble eating, talking, and even distort the rest of your teeth as they shift to fill the gap. While a crown may repair a damaged tooth, it isn’t enough to replace one that’s gone missing in its entirety. For that level of severity, one of the most reliable methods of repair is bridgework.
Dental bridges are essentially a series of at least three crowns connected to each other. The center crowns cover the gap of the missing teeth while the two on the end (called abutments) attach to your healthy teeth to support the bridge. The final effect is a completely naturally looking series of replacement teeth that function just like the real ones.
Veneers
Veneers are thin, custom-made covers designed to change the size, shape, or color of your teeth. They are bonded on to the front side of the tooth.
Who might be interested in veneers? If your teeth are permanently stained or discolored, or gaps in your front teeth make you feel self-conscious about smiling, you may be a good candidate for veneers.
Bring back that healthy smile!
